Hunters Intro

Are you new to hunting? Thinking about getting into hunting but are feeling a bit lost with all the options. Hunters Intro will fast track your way to a successful hunt. Learning to hunt is an art and this course will point you on the right path for you.

There is a tremendous amount of information out there about how to hunt different species. How do you sort through it all to work out what is right for you? What should you or shouldn’t you be doing. Everyone has a different style or preference. Some people are drawn to different species and for different reasons.  Covering all big game species will take more time than we have.  Instead, we will go through the main species and learn to hunt Whitetail, Elk and Black Bear. If it is in the spring we will also dive into Wild Turkeys.

We will cut through all of the confusion and show you the more important elements to hunting. What it is really all about beyond the Instagram trophy buck. Part of the course will be classroom based to cover all the online components and theory. Hunting happens rain or shine so we will head out and show you what you are looking for when your scouting.

Out in the woods we will show you how to set up, stalk, and locate good hunting areas unique to different species. Also, what you are looking for both online and on the ground to give you a good understanding of where to start your days and what to do. We are extremely privileged in BC to have some if the best and most diverse hunting in all of North America

Hunting is much more than just about the kill or the trophy. When we hunt we are partaking in a ritual that has existed since man could stand. In our modern lives we have lost connection with nature and the animals we pursue. With our plastic wrapped meats on a shelf we live a very sanitized version of what it is to be a human. To hunt is to learn and grow an understanding and deep respect for your quarry.

If you are curious and want to learn more about what it takes, come and join us for a 2 day dive into hunting big game in BC. Its a hands on approach. We will hang a tree stand, trail camera and do some on the ground scouting. An early start on the Sunday and we will try to get you in position for some wildlife viewing in our scouted areas. It will likely mean an early finish for those that need to travel. We have reserved the glamping tents for participants for this course. Please let us know if you want to stay in our Bell Tents. Its on first come first serve basis.

Basic Outline

Please bring clothing suitable for being outdoors and in the woods regardless of the weather. We will meet at the Base at 9 am on the Saturday we will finish the day in the early evening around 5pm. We will spend some time introducing the course and reviewing the material at the base. After lunch we will be heading out to do some on the ground scouting. Please have your day pack and be ready to go.

On the Sunday we will be splitting into small groups to do an early morning start. We will arrange the time on the Saturday. During the day we will cover all the main hunting styles in practise and hopefully get a glimpse of some early morning wildlife. We will run through how to field dress and butcher an animal in the field. Due to the early start time we will be finishing earlier in the afternoon. For those that need to travel this will give you some extra time.

This is not a guided hunt. Legally we cannot take you hunting as we would be seen as illegally guiding you. Please do not expect to be harvesting any animals on this course. You are welcome to bring any firearms or bows you own to ask questions. If you wish to hunt after the course hours you are welcome to. Providing you have the necessary tags and licenses. We do ask you to not hunt the areas that we will scout as having 8 people hunting in the same spot will render them rather pressurized and unproductive for all.

Please bring you mobile phone or tablet with space for downloading apps.

We will take regular tea, coffee breaks and there is a coffee and biscuits available.
