The Backwoods Bushcraft Immersion
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”
Henry David Thoreau
“The more you know the less you carry”
Mors Kochanski
Bushcraft is being in the woods, building, crafting, observing and learning what nature has to show and teach us. We have to learn how to see the lessons. The bush is neutral it doesn’t care if you are rich, famous, poor, good or bad as we are all biodegradable in the end. You can fight it, compete against it, hate it, ignore it, we all have our moments, instead respecting and working with nature is the key. Ultimately we are responsible for our own perception and our emotions and our legacy is our choice of action.
Why Backwoods Immersion
Cupping water from a cool mountain creek you splash your face and clean the dust and dirt away. It washes away your connections to the modern demands and hubbub of our everyday lives. You have arrived in the mountains and they are your home.
For some the immersion is a time to connect with nature and themselves but also as a right of passage. There is nothing better than spending time in nature to reframe refresh and renew ourselves.
We focus on traditional bush crafts as they allow creativity and practicality to come to the fore. Wilderness living is for those that are willing to take on the challenge to make their lives their own. In one of the few things left where your effort is directly linked to your comfort and learning. There is nothing more satisfying than eating a foraged, fished or hunted meal with home made bread, cooked on a fire you made, eaten from a bowl that you crafted. Washed down with crystal clear spring water or a steaming mug of tea from a kuksa you made. If this sounds like something you would enjoy then you will appreciate this immersion.
The immersion culminates in a right of passage or graduation expedition. The trip is planned as a group where all the skills and crafts are put to good use.
